Why Indonesia is more than just Bali.

Don’t lie! You totally thought that Bali was the only place to go in Indonesia. Its a fact that when people think of Indonesia, they think of Bali and nothing beyond that. Even though Bali is not something anyone should miss if they travel even near that area of the ocean, but take a run at the other islands as well. I had a pleasure of taking a trip through the Java island of Indonesia and end the trip with a heavenly stay in Bali! Join me exploring why I did not want to limit myself to Bali.

First look at Indonesia, with a beautiful sunrise! Welcome to Indonesia!

When you have beaches in your holiday, you seem to be content, but sometimes you can’t think beyond the high soaring mountains and the beautiful landscape they are set in. The island of Java has exactly what you are looking for. It has the beautiful mountains which will make you fall in love with the topography of this diverse nation and a culture trip through the many centuries of Indonesian heritage. The metropolitan hub of the country which is Jakarta, also the capital is a man made conglomerate, where high rise buildings and corporate spaces complete the skyline. The thumping city vibe with a vibrant 21st century outlook, Jakarta has it all.

Yogyakarta, a special region in the heart of the island, still governed by a monarchy, has so much to offer you, you won’t want to leave too soon. The heritage sites which are Borobudur Temple and Prambanan Temples take you on a journey through time. Borobudur being the largest buddhist temple in the world and a magnificent structure, not something to be overlooked or missed, and if possible then try and catch the sunrise tour as well. The Prambanan Temple are a group of Hindu Temples, despite being in a seismically active zone, the restoration has been done brilliantly, the major temples are almost intact and still exude the beauty they were originally built with.

The mountains that we so intensely waned to see. Just look over the horizon, the area is full of them. You can even climb a few, just contact any tour agency off Google. I had the pleasure of climbing an active volcano, yes you read that right, you can climb them. The whole country is full of volcanoes that are free to scale. I took an overnight trek to the top of Mt. Merapi, and saw that beautiful sunrise which blew my mind away. I was lucky enough to get clear skies all night, so everyone would close their head lamps, sit down and look at the stars, our version of a rest. What a night!

Looking up at the smoking summit of the active volcano. That is what you have to climb in the dark.

You can also climb Mt. Bromo which is widely known as well. Besides all of this, you shall come across travellers from all around the world, make some wonderful friends, get to spend time with the locals, the locals are wonderful people, very polite and extremely helpful, and of course, super friendly. The food is cheap and in big portions, so you don’t have to worry about that burning a hole in your pocket. The local food is delicious, so don’t worry about having to look for a McDonald’s nearby, because I’m sure you won’t need it.

You still have to visit Bali and enjoy everything it has to offer!

If you are planning on travelling to Indonesia, take a trip through the island of Java and explore the island, you won’t regret it. Give it a shot, what do you have to lose here, a few days or a little more money. Once you take that trip, all of that won’t feel like a loss, mostly because of the experiences and memories you would have gained. Go explore!
